Review - JaredFogle received fame and fortune as a
college student who lived in a room above a Subway
sandwich shop. He merely ate a Subway sandwich at
every meal and went on to drop 245
pounds. Most
people refer to the diet that Jared Fogle used as he was
losing weight as The Subway Diet.
The internet has two versions of the Subway Diet. One
version has a cup of coffee for breakfast, a 6 inch subway
sandwich and baked chips for lunch, and a twelve inch
vegetarian sub for dinner. This seems to be the version
Jared followed.
The other version consists of a small bowl of cereal with
skimmed milk with a black coffee for breakfast. Lunch consists
of a 6 inch Turkey Subway Sandwich with a diet Pepsi. A
six inch vegetarian Subway sandwich with water for
dinner. Snacks of fruit are included during the
day.Complete with a book
tour, video log and interactive website, Jared is passing on
the important message of making good food choices for health
and vitality.
What we like about this plan. There is no preparation work or
cooking in this diet Subway sandwich shops are located in all
major areas. There are many healthier fast food options at
Subway including baked chips, yogurt, apple slices and
raisins. The company does a good job of giving customers
the
nutritional values of all foods. Some of the
sandwiches are relatively inexpensive. Currently Subway
has been promoting a 5 dollar foot long sandwich that is a
healthy bargain!
What we dislike about this
plan. There is no
full-plan support; one must maintain the diet on their
own. The diet severely restricts food
choices. The subway corporation does not indorse this
diet although there ads certainly promote Jared and they share
in the profits! There is no exercise plan to this diet;
however after losing 100 pounds Jared began a program.
How healthy
is this plan? It
is not an unhealthy plan if you exercise and take a
multivitamin. Eating the same thing everyday, there will
be something that you will begin to lack. The ingredients
are fresh and you can pile on the veggies and skip the high fat
condiments. The sandwiches can be a little high in
sodium, so be sure to drink plenty of water. Subway is a
healthy fast food establishment, so when fast food is
necessary, this shop was plenty of
options. Here’s The Bottom Line.
Over ten years later and still
maintaining his weight loss, Jared is an inspiration to us all.
The diet is simple and you will certainly lose
weight. (Think about it, the 6-inch Veggie sub with no
mayo or cheese is less than 250 calories at only 3 grams of
fat. For a person with a daily calorie requirement
of 1800 calories, they could switch a sub for snacks or a
dessert and still lose weight.) Jared’s book, Jared
the Subway Guy: Winning through Losing, includes tips like
“don’t skip breakfast” and “wait 20 minutes to register
fullness”, the average dieter will take comfort in the lessons
they have heard numerous times before.
