Sonoma Diet Review

fat lossSonoma Diet Review
- This diet was created by Connie Guttersen and is named after the Sonoma region in California.  It is a Mediterranean inspired way of eating and savoring your food as well as your life.

This diet does not cut out any certain food groups; instead it focuses on whole grains, meats, vegetables, cheeses and best of all..wine!  It is different than other plans because works in “waves”.

Wave One is 10 days long;  Wave Two is where you will remain until you hit your target weight loss goal.  This wave is where you will learn to cultivate the diets style of eating, emphasizing on pleasure and health.  Wave Three, is a maintenance wave were occasional indulgencies are permitted.

What
we like about this plan  What is not to like about enjoying a glass of wine and savoring a great meal! Minus the first wave, no food is restrictive. The first week is extreme, but you will have a rapid weight loss. The Sonoma Diet is very simple - no counting grams or calories.  Plate size is used for portion control. It is an affordable diet to follow, and it has a website registered members to get recipes and support.  Wave 3 is maintainable in keeping the weight off., something that is not always the case in other diet plans.

What
we dislike about this plan  Wave One menus analyzed were 900-1100 calories for women and 1100-1300 for men, with 200-300 calories more in Wave Two. This is going to be too low for most people in the first phase and many people in the second, depending upon their size and activity level.  When hungry, Guttersen offers “have a small snack to tide you over".  This doesn't actually work well when you're ready to eat everything plus the kitchen sink!  The plan also states that grains are "the heart and soul of the diet", ironically; the Sonoma Diet has fewer grain servings than the American "Food Pyramid".   Exercise is a non component in this plan.

How healthy is this plan?   The book was authored by a registered nutrition.  This is a plus.  The first wave’s limitations and caloric intake is quite extreme.  Get rid of wave 1, probably a gimmick to give your false loss on the scale, and go straight to the second wave.  This gives you a healthier diet. The concept of eating plenty of produce, minimizing refined foods and being mindful of portion size are keys of any medically approved diet plan.  The plan encourages the “enjoyment of food”, which mentally can provide a boost to keep you afloat during the “waves”.

Here’s the Bottom Line  The Sonoma diet promotes healthy concepts, but the tight portion control might be tough for some dieters.  One can learn to enjoy eating healthy whole foods in a more relaxed and enjoyable style, then this diet is a match for you.
