Joel Fuhrman Diet Review

Strip that fatJoel Fuhram Diet Review
 - Joel Fuhrman, an American doctor, specializes in treating major illnesses via nutrition and dietary changes.  Based on his book “Eat to Live” Dr. Fuhrman believes in a diet based on fresh vegetables, fruits, grains, legumes, while eliminating (or at least limiting) animal products, simple carbohydrates and processed foods.   He has a list of “allowed” foods which one can eat in abundance.

These foods are mainly whole plant foods and are so high in fiber, bulk and nutrients (including a wide variety of phytochemicals) so the dieter will become full long before he can consume too many calories from these foods.

Dr. Fuhrman believes weight loss is about knowledge rather than will power. His formula is health equals nutrients/calories, which means that when the ratio of all nutrients to calories is high and the fat will melt away. The more nutrient rich food you consume, the more you will be satisfied with fewer calories and the cravings for fattening foods will disappear.

Whatwe like about this plan  The plan is inexpensive; the cost of Fuhrman’s diet is the cost of food and his book.   The diet does not have you counting calories – you can eat your “allowed” foods until you are full.   He is pro “raw” vegetables and fruits which makes preparation work for this plan easy.

What
we dislike about this plan Fuhrman believes “symptoms” of skipping a meal or eating too little (i.e. light headiness and headaches) are not due to hunger but rather detoxification. He believes these symptoms will go away as the dieter adjusts to his high phytonutrient/low calorie plan.   This is up for debate among Nutritionists.  Other doctor’s feel is diet is to low in starch. If you are an animal protein person this diet might not be for you.

How healthy is this plan?
Yes, but I would not recommend totally eliminating meat and dairy items entirely. The weight loss is scientifically proven (according to Fuhrman) and does not have any nutritional drawbacks.

Here’s
the Bottom Line   If you are a vegetable lover with the ability to limit your meats and dairy products but not your calories than this diet may be an answer. In addition to his insight on weight reduction, Fuhrman offers great information that disproves dieting myths.
